I am back again..
Firstly welcome Rim (so happy your here now) and pour tous les francais játtends avec impatience vos commentaires!
This week hasn´t been too hard, the work is okay, not too exciting!
We went back into the jungle on Tuesday where the waterfall is and we slept there again. We worked around the house, flattening the ground and built a small tent where we pùt the fire and where we ate.
Today I came back into Puyo with Jocelyne the new volontere from New York and Enrique, because there wasn´t much to do in Arutam. Liv and Chad went to Irshim until saturday and Helen has left us! Snif snif... I miss them all ready!
Helen likes to make fun of me because I am constantly hungry and food is all I talk about! I can´t get that burrito I had in Baños out of my mind.
This weekend there is a carnaval in Ecuador and we´re going to celebrate in Arutam by playing games and having water fights! Fun times!
I tried uploading some pictures but it didnt work; i´ll do so when I go to Baños next week. Love you all xxx
I googled "festivals in Ecuador" and came up with an article written this year by a chap called Dominic Hamilton. Obviously he doesn't know what Lent is and more importantly when it is. Anyway see below part of his article.
ReplyDelete"...Carnaval takes place in the week before Lent, usually in February. This is the biggest festival in Ecuador. Frenzied water fights in which nobody is spared are an Ecuadorian specialty. The people of Cuenca in the south seem particularly fond of soaking each other. The only way to save yourself a drenching is to stay indoors or go to the central-highland town of Ambato, where water throwing was banned because it became too rough. Instead, a festival of fruit and flowers takes place in Ambato in the last two weeks of February. On March 4, the annual Peach Festival is a wonderful sight to witness in Gualaceo, close to Cuenca. The peaches are, by the way, fantastic..."
It seems that there are a lot of fruit in Ecuador, but you only speak of basic vegetable. Well as you are on your way to Cuenca soon you can try these lovely peaches!!
Cuenca seems to be a great place. It is a large city with 400,000 inhabitants and there are two universities...So plenty of drinking, I would guess!! The town centre is a Unesco World Heritage Site...Plenty to see: the Old Cathedral, the New Cathedral (More candles!!) and a lot more.
Please post plenty of pictures when you get there...
Lots of kisses.
It sounds absolutely wonderful, and such fun. We're really looking forward to seeing the pictures!
