Ai Ai Ai.. What a night! What a night!
First things first, after leaving the internet café in Chiclayo, we were looking for a place to buy cigarettes (......) which seems bloody impossible in this country! So we eventually came accross this guy selling some in the street be wanted to sell them to us for 8 soles which seemed like a lot to us so we kept walking and asked a security lady in the street, mentioning that the guy accross the street was selling them for 8 soles. She immediately shook her head and took her whistle out and called the guy over!! It was so funny! She asked him why he was selling them to us for 8 soles but he didn´t change his price so she kindly showed us where we would find a shop and we were on our way.
We eventually found our hostal after asking 5 taxi drivers and made our way to the bus station by craming Liv, myself and our 2 bigger than us backpacks in the back seat! Again very funny moment! We arrived at the Cruz Del Sur bus terminal, checked our bags in.. yes, i repeat, checked our bags in! And then to our suprise a guy walks by with a gun in his pocket! Liv immediately freaked out as he seemed to approach a girl who then left with him, but I´m sure they knew each other. I asked one of the security officers if it was legal in Peru for civilians to have guns and apparently it is with a license! Hmm.. Not so funny moment!
Anyway, then we showed our passports, got our hand luggage checked and boarded our bus!
Excuse my french Mummy and Papa but... F*CKING luxury!! Amazingly comfy reclining seats with foot rest, blanket and cushion, panoramic views as we were sitting in the front on the second level, for dinner we had a small salad, rice and chicken and rice pudding and a glass of Inka Cola, which tastes like bubble gum. It was quite nice apart from the desert, but I don´t like rice pudding anyway. Then we watched Red with Bruce Willis and we had our own personal headphones in our seats. I think Peru may be obsessed with Bruce Willis, both movies I saw here stared Bruce Willis. Then I slept, or tried to sleep, it really isn´t easy to sleep in a bus, but it was much better than the other buses I´ve taken. Also the material the blanket and cushion was made from was not very clever as it made you sweat during the night! Not so funny moment! In the morning we had a hot croissant with ham, a small muffin, juice and tea.
Once in Lima, which is very ugly I must say and quite dissapointing, we found our hostal: the Flying Dog and then went out for a walk along the coast which is quite beautiful. Lima is up on a cliff and the beach is down below. We´re gonna go watch the sunset from there tonight and try to get a nice meal!
Tomorrow, we are off to Huacachina which is a small oasis town! Google! I can´t wait!
Miss you all lots xxx
...Buying cigarettes!!! I didn't realised that Liv was a smoker! lol
ReplyDeleteThe bus journey and experience sounds good though. Is it much more expensive than the standard bus journeys?
Sorry to hear that Lima is not that nice...It can only get better.
Today we went to the passport office for Steven! In a weeks time he should receive it with his "new real" name on it! Then tonight we went to the theatre to see "Hairspray". It was brilliant!! And Lara did your job!
As explained I am out all day and evening tomorrow, so will catch up with you on Thursday.

It cost 90 soles, about 30$. So yea quite a bit more expensive but worth it.

Pisco sour is a drink made from Pisco which is a grape liqueur and lemon juice! The ceviche was pretty good, though u know me and sea food dishes.. you and papa would have loved it though. its raw sea food marinated in lemon and its served cold. its very tasty.
ReplyDeletethank you sophia for joining us again! yep its just me and liv at the moment x
Hey Angelique it sounds like ur still having an amazing experience. So how much is 8 soles in uk sterling the guy was trying to charge you for cigarettes and how many was that for. The bus journey sounds long but luxurious and fun too which is always good. The food sounds good too. So how long are you in huacachina for. We all miss you too Angelique. x x
ReplyDeleteJust a quick follow up to your text message of Tuesday...
ReplyDelete- You are eventually going to visit Machu Picchu. Fantastic!! I recall when I studied the Pre-Columbiam Inca Language, I was taught that Machu Picchu meant "Old Peaks". It is 2430 metres high and probably was built as an estate for the Inca Emperor Pachacuti. It is known as "The Lost City Of The Incas" and many see it as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
- You are going to Arequipa-Colca Canyon. Fantastic!! At a depth of more than 3,400 metres, it is the deepest in the world and twice the depth of the Grand Canyon...Here you are, you lovely american friends! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it! lol
I hope that you manage to see the Giant Andean Condor among other wonderful birds (of the feather kind that is). "El Condor pasa..."
- I also hope that you get a chance to visit the lake Titicaca. It is 3,811 metres above sea level and is the largest in South America by volume of water. And no chance of a tsunami up there...
Enjoy and please stay safe and post more pictures!
Angelique - I'm assuming my posted comment earlier has not reached you. Papa gave me your link last night and I came in early this morning to send a little burst to you. Papa just came back saying my comment not on sight so trying again. Was quite surprised when your email arrived informing of a nomadic trip round South and Central America. Guess, like your oldies, my initial counsel would be to be safe and to enjoy yourself, of course. Thinking of you wandering round Sth America puts me in mind of black hair, lightly tanned skins and limpid brown eyes - and that's just the goats!! Phew, helluva' trip - no wonder parents worry. Naturally you a grown woman now and must do your thing, only natural to fret a bit having troubled much of the world in my time. Just looking at Papa's most recent comments - sheesh! he sounds like a geographer. JD came thru last night to tell me of your trip and to say that he and Mummy are off to Venice for their 30th anniversary. Hard to believe so many years have passed - and they've still got their best man!! I don't have the time to go thru' all that is accessible on this blog but will your friend Liv be travelling all the way with you? Having watched you grow from a miniscule size it seems natural to worry about you sashaying thru' the Amazon Basin! It's an Irish weekend this week so will be having a few beers and praying that Ireland will beat England at the rugby in Dublin. Best regards to Liv and lots of love to you Angelique. Be happy...and safe.
