Ai Ai Ai Carambas!

Ai Ai Ai Carambas! This is the most used quote we have been using over here. It really illustrates the adventures we are on! It all started one night in Arutam, we we´re playing cards and it´s started to pour with rain, and Enrique looked up and shouted ´Ai Ai Ai mi casa!´. As if something may happen to his house up on the hill! And continually used the word ´Carambas´, which basically means ´Oh my God!´. It was a very funny moment!

So Thursday morning, we got the bus at 6am to go to Cuenca and arrived at about 10 am. Cuenca is a beautiful city and so modern in comparison to Puyo and some other places along the way. We went to our hostal, had lunch and story of my life, I broke my camera once again! Ai Ai Ai Carambas! Liv and I walked around Cuenca for about 2 hours trying the find someone who could fix it but had no luck! So I guess I´ll have to buy a new one yet again! 3 cameras in 1 month! Ai Ai Ai Carambas!

After getting over the loss of my camera, we walked around the centre of Cuenca, which is really pretty. There are many churches and cathedrals. We saw the New Cathedral which looks very old and is absolutely beautiful and huge. And the Old Cathedral which looks very new! And Liv is lending me her camera whenever I need to take pictures until I get a new one! Later in the evening, we went to a really sketchy part of town (well it seemed to be) and ate Cui, guineapig! Ai Ai Ai Carambas! It was so funny to watch them prepare it on the fire. I will upload photos soon as they are brilliant! And it tastes really good, it had a smoky taste and tastes a bit like rabbit, but there wasn´t much meat on it! Later, we went out for drinks by the Rio Tomebamba and had lots of Gin & Tonics! Ai Ai Ai Carambas!
This morning, we woke up and the very very very very.... friendly lady in the hostal informed us about the tsunami which hit Japan over night and that there would be after effects all along the west coast of South America! Ai Ai Ai Carambas!
Getting very worried we rushed to use the internet but finding out information is very difficult here for some reason! Anyway, we eventually found out that it would hit the coast this evening but wern´t sure how bad it would be! Ai Ai Ai Carambas! More about the tsunami later...
We continued our day normally, as Cuenca is nowhere near the coast and visited a small Inca ruin by the Rio. How dissapointing it was! Just a bunch of rocks! Then we walked back along the Rio and back into the centre where... Ai Ai Ai Carambas! I got my nose pierced! Ai Ai Ai Carambas! It freaking hurt! And there I was thinking he would pierce it with a needle or a gun, like they do the ears! Oh no! He pierced it with the actual piercing, which he sharpened! Ai Ai Ai Carambas! It was very clean though so no worries there, Mummy and Papa! Happy with my new look, we went off to lunch and I realised that the tiny stone had fallen off the piercing so, I decided to change it for a pink one that Liv gave me! Ai Ai Ai Carambas! Bad idea! We went into the restaurant´s bathroom and pulled it out and blood came gushing out and I couldn´t put the new piercing back in! So we went straight back to the place where I got it done and he did it again with the new piercing! And it hurt so bad! Ai Ai Ai Carambas! But it´s ok now, I´m cleaning it and it will be fine!
After lunch, we made our way to the bus station and we´re told the next bus to Loja, our next destination which is 5 hours away, was at 10pm! Ai Ai Ai Carambas! But luckily we  managed to find one that was leaving at 4 pm. The journey to Loja was awful, it was in hills and the road was very windy and uncomfortable!
Once in Loja, we found out that the whole coast of Ecuador and Peru has been closed tonight. Ai Ai Ai Carambas! We were planning on crossing the boarder Sunday, along the coast, arriving in Piura, Peru, but we´re not sure how well that will work out now. If it stays closed we´ll have to cross the boarder in land at La Balsa boarding crossing, which takes much longer! Ai Ai Ai Carambas!

I´m off now as I am absolutely knackered and feeling a cold coming on. Hopefully it´s nothing serious! I´ll dope my self up with pain killers tonight and drink plenty of water. Ai Ai Ai Carambas!

Buenas Noches!

¡Ay, caramba! Is guinea pig just for the tourists/travellers or do they breed them for food?
I'll look in Tooting Market to see if they sell them...They probably do but for different reasons!!
Good to see that Jenny (the French one, that is) has woken up!
