I may have been a little mean to Lima on my first day there. In the evening I ate ceviche which is raw fish and sea food marinated in lemon juice. It was very nice, but I am pretty picky with my sea food and probably wouldn´t go for it again. But Papa and Emma-Jane you would love it! The next day, before I decided to transform into a lobster in the Huacachina desert, we looked around Central Lima which is beautiful. I was actually really suprised too to see how big Lima actually is. We saw the changing of the guards at the President´s Palace and the main Cathedral. Then we made our way over to the San Fransisco Monastary, where we got to see lots of dead people´s bones on display. It was really gruesome but quite funny as we tore away from our guide and ran around the catacombs which was quite freaky.
We then made our way down to Huacachina which is a small oasis town of no more than 200 ... why do I bother, Papa has already said what I need to say, right! The journey from Lima to Huacachina was beautiful too, mostly in sand dunes. We also got to see the sun set in the bus which was amazing!
We arrived when it was dark so couldn´t really see what Huacachina was like until the next morning, but we could tell there was monstruous sand dunes all around. It is really quite impressive how high they are!
We spent yesterday by the pool sunbathing and funnily enough I transformed into a beautiful lobster.. It´s not even funny. This may be the worst sun burn I´ve ever had. It hurts so bad!! We met 2 australians, Mickael and Sean, who left for Cusco last night, and with whom we´ll probably meet up with in Cusco or Arequipa.
My electronics curse is still following me and my phone broke down! The battery completely died on the bus down to Huacachina and I was unable to charge it in the hostal. So we went into Ica, which is 5 minutes away and found an electronics market, where they tried all sorts of things. First they tried charging my phone with my charger and then with their charger, but no luck. Then they tried jump starting my battery. Litterally. They had a charger which they had cut the end off to expose the wires, plugged it in and pressed the wires onto my battery. Only in South America, right! Maybe I´ll suggest this method back home and see how it works! Then they took the battery out and charged it in a strange looking machine which magically revived the battery, and my phone now works again! Fioouff...
This afternoon, we are going sand buggying and sand boarding! Why are you laughing? Don´t you think I can do it! I´m really excited as we haven´t seen past the dunes yet.. Probably, more dunes! I tried walking up but gave up very quickly! It´s so steep and very difficult to walk in the sand! And we´ll get to see the sunset from up there too. Apparently, we go 10 km into the dunes.
Tomorrow, if I am back to my human form I may go back in the sun, responsibly this time, before we head off to cold Cusco and the Sacred Valley! YAY!
Thank you to everyone who has been commenting. It makes me so happy to read your comments and makes me feel that much closer to home! Rim has dissapeared again though! Someone, contact her or I may attack with my machete!
Welcome Uncle Brian! Yes Papa has taken up the job as my personal tour guide through South America. I did almost fire him because he told me Chiclayo, north Peru, was the city of friendship, which is was NOT! But I gave him another chance!

Ok, j´admet! Gros bisous
Joyeux anniversaire a Maxime!
Robert.
ReplyDeleteHey Lobster! Duh you're near the Equator, wear some sunscreen!!
ReplyDeleteI know we're supposed to laugh but what exactly is sand buggying and sand board. Is it like snowboarding but on sand? Is that even possible??
Sounds like you're liking peru better than before anyway!
xx
...Spot on Emma-Jane...Difference is that snow melt, sand doesn't. Having seen photos on the net, it is quite scary as the incline is near vertical.
ReplyDeleteYes, Ceviche sounds very nice, a bit like the dish from Tahiti that Francois' friends served when we were in Martinique. Mind you, you probably do not remember as you were only...7!!
So Robert refers to Enrique as a Latino Anglo Frog!! I bet he had scores of European "Amies" or maybe "Amis" over the years.
So my little lobster, enjoy the dunes and speak to you mañana.
on a lot of the dunes the incline IS near vertical, but the ones we sand boarded down were not that steep. apart from the last one, where i over waxed my board and somersaulted down the dune! It was so much fun though!!! I wanna go back! :(
ReplyDeleteNope, I don´t remember the dish Francois´s friend made! come to think of it i don´t remember much of Martinique at all!
As for Enrique having European ´Amis´ I very much doubt it as he is very anti-gay !! As for ´Amies´... you´re probably right there!
Sounds so amazing over there Angelique. I'm so jealous. Every time I read your blog the more determined I am to go travelling. It looks so good. Hope your well and speak soon x x
