Hair, vindaloo and riots ...

I got my hair cut!!! So, I thought I needed a change and boy, travelling with long hair is not easy! And everyone said I should go for it, so... I did! Liv came with me and I got in the chair and the women started chopping away! Litterally! You know how the hairdresser is supposed to clip up you hair and cut in stages? No! This hairdresser just chopped off my hair in one go! And it was too short!! Then she started ´straightening´ what she had allready cut, not only make it shorter but even more crooked! And Then she started to add the layers and it seemed as if she was just chopping out pieces from everywhere!! I almost cried when I saw the mess she was creating! Once she had finished, she blowdried and straightened it and it didn´t look all that bad! It´s just very short, below my chin, and slightly crooked! But it´s cute and I´m rocking it!

The other night, we all went to the Star of India restaurant because the boys wanted to try South America´s hottest curry, which if you manage to finish, you win a tshirt which says ´I survived the world´s most dangerous vindaloo´. Of course the guys where all cocky about how easy it would be to eat it! I tell you, after the first mouthful they were suffering!! Lol! Sean couldn´t eat more than a few mouthfuls, Dave ate maybe half and Michael finished his! So he got a tshirt.. but I may buy a marker and add to ´I survived the world´s most dangerous vindaloo´: ´by cheating´! Because he put some of his into Sean dish! I tasted it and it was vile! There wasn´t even any taste to it!

I don´t know if you´ve heard what´s happening over here in La Paz at the moment, but for the past 3 days there has been riots in the streets. It´s minors from outside of La Paz protesting about the minimum wage which is too low. The police are blocking the roads and the riotters are throughing gaz and dynamite in the streets. It sounds like a freaking war zone! Yesterday, I went out by myself because Liv and Paul were sleeping and on my way back I got caught up in it, so I had to detour to get back to the hostal! But no worries, we are all safe and staying away from any trouble!

Last thing... Michael, Sean and Dave went on a 2 day hike yesterday and were supposed to come back this evening... but oh oh! They´re not back yet and it´s 10.30 pm! Liv and I are getting a little worried... Hmm... Then again those boys probably got lost or hiked way too far and it´s taking them twice as long to get back here ... We hope!

  1. Oh Angelique, you certainly are seeing life on your travels! As I said earlier, your hair will grow again. I obviously got the wrong end of the stick, and I thought you had eaten the curry when I saw the picture of you wearing the tee shirt! You take care.

  2. Are you sure you went to a hairdresser? Sounds like it was a farmer's wife using her shears between shearing two llamas..."should have gone to spec savers"!

As soon as you stray from the homeland, that is Bradford, Southall or Brick Lane, you get crap curries...but the Aussies wouldn't no that.

Make sure you keep away from these striking miners. If it gets any worth get out.

Next stop the jungles with the Piranhas, Anacondas and Dolphins...What the hell are dolphins doing in the jungle? Got lost I presume. Then off to Potosi, the highest city in the world at 4090 meters. Be sure to wear a llama or two because I understand that it is bloody cold up there. The Mont Blanc is barely higher (4810 m).It used to be a mining city, very rich in the old days as it produced a lot of silver. There are no miners left as they have all gone on strike to La Paz! Still a big place with some 120,000 inhabitants and plenty to see (museums, churches, cathedral) and things to do (mine tours, clubbing,etc..)

Then you are doing a guided tour of Uyuni Salt Flats. I let everyone google this. All very technical. You need a degree just to get on the bus or jeep.

Enjoy it all and lots of xxxxxxx

  5. Hows'it Angelique. By now you're away on your jungle trek or maybe on your way back. Guys here are complaining that I haven't corresponded with you for some days. Now you've told them you've got a new look which they can't see I'm waiting for them to start hurling things at me. Is there no respect for the elderly!! I haven't seen you with short hair since you were born. Ever since that auspicious day you've looked like Lady Godiva. But, as they say, a change is as good as a rest.
Don't know whether you'll see any dolphins but I do recall seeing a tv programme some years back set in the Amazon basin - do believe the dolphins are pink? Whatever, they are much more pleasant occupants of any Amazonia river than the other residents. So no need for the bikini!
They say we learn something new every day and I have. I have travelled much but never heard of Potosi. Did they have a MacDonalds?
A long greyish week draws to a close here. I'm off to listen to the Cambridge Graduate Orchestra tomorrow evening and thereafter spend the rest of the weekend on my back in, hopefully, a sun-drenched garden. Think you've got more chance of wrestling an anaconda. That's a flip remark not a suggestion!
Think you may find New York about as exciting as Tooting market on a Saturday after this colourful and exciting trip across the continent. However I can tell you the nightlife in New York is superb so plenty yet for you to look forward to. You sound well so I trust that you are. All the best to Liv and the boys. Love to you. Will log on again next week. Be safe, watch out for those bloody goats!!
