This is just a quick message as we came back to Puyo today to buy a few things.
Firstly, sorry for not coming on skype but it doesn´t work in this cafe!
So this week, I´m planning on going to a different community called Irshim with 3 other volunteers. It´s a 3-4 hours hike in the jungle and you actually live with a family and do real work! And yes Papa, it is included in the price, it´s part of the same program just a different community.
Last night we made a camp fire next to our house and bought some sugar cane alcohol called Cristal. That stuff is lethal! Waking up to a bowl of mashed yucca was not my idea of hangover food! So we ate in Puyo when we got here! I also woke up with the worst back pain along my spine as if it´s bruised.. ouch!
So I´ll write back next weekend when we come go to Baños. MWAH X
Bonjour ma belle,
ReplyDelete...So you are going to see the Irshim tribe...3 or 4 hours away...Is that walking or is it by car??
Who are the other 3 volunteers going with you?
I looked it up on the net and came across the blog of a chap called Andy, with a lot of interesting pictures (one with Enrique and George and one of cooked larvae!!) "I am a celebrity get me out of here" came to mind! Also try the ants. I understand that they taste like lemon!
...And you had a few drams of Cristal. It is an "aguardiente", a type of rum like in the Martinique. Can be very strong! This is absolutely lethal...Don't get used to it! Mind you, I wouldn't object to try it!! Ksenia, I believe that you would like Cristal a lot better than Chicha, remember the women spit!!
Baños...It sounds quite exciting! With the Tungurahua volcano culminating at 5016 meters...it makes the mont Blanc look like a pen! The TV last erupted in 1999. Apparently worth a visit and one of the most beautiful and impressive tourist attraction in South America. It is however an unpredictable area and you should be aware of potential dangers, whatever they may be!
Other place of attraction is the Basilica de le Virgen de Agua Santa, a museum, alittle night life and restaurants serving local specialities.
See what you can come up with thanks to internet. Have a lovely week!
PS. Sofia, You can call me Jacques!!
Well looks like Papa is tracking your every step lol! I can't wait till we get to see some pictures. Did you manage to find a new camera? Or dry out your one? In the meantime I hope you're using your phone for photos as well.
ReplyDeleteHope your back is better! xx
Ravi de savoir que tout va bien et que ta santé est bonne . j'éspére que ce voyage te réservera plein de joies et de surprises . Nous pensons à toi . A bientot . Bernadette et Robert . Lyon le 23/02/2011
ReplyDeleteAngélique, il me semble que Baños est assez loin de la jungle. Est-ce que vous allez trouver un petit hôtel pour le week-end?
ReplyDeleteHey Angélique, Glad to hear you are having a good time on your adventure so far! Can't wait to see the pictures of the travels so far (Yes, I am jumping on this band-wagon with Emma-Jane!)
ReplyDeleteThe Jungles sound great, although not sure I'd be up for Chicha with the whole women spit thing! Still, if you think that's strange... there was an article on the news yesterday where a small ice cream shop in the UK is producing Ice-Cream made from human breast milk - not sure which I would rather go for!?!? Ha ha!
Anyway, hope you are well and safe!
Oh and who knew Uncle Jacques was a closet tour guide!?!?
hey angel... hope ur all good in the jungle. just dropped to say that its not da same when u not here in london. let us know wats good and cant wait to read ur next post oh and yea everyone is requesting pictures. do something about it.
